1) I think this should qualify as a secret
2) I actually agree.

I don't think Elijah Wood was necessarily a bad casting choice, but I agree, this should be a secret and I'm not sure why it made the failbar.

Because it's phrased as a fact, not an opinion. Throw an "I think" in there and it would've made the cut.

I'm aware that this is how case makes the call, but it's pretty arbitrary. People with common sense realize that "Elijah Wood is the worst etc." is an opinion, not a fact, even though it doesn't specifically include "I think".

It's one of the secrets that would have been a secret if they had literally just pasted the words "I think" at the beginning and made no other changes.

I agree with you. I movie had serious failings, but I can't think of any that were casting related.

Elijah was definitely not what I was picturing when I read the Hobbit. I always pictured Frodo as a frumpy older dude. (I think I got confused by 50 not being human 50.) The other hobbits seemed about right to me.

I do like Martin as Bilbo. His hobbit feet look weird to me but his portrayal was pretty spot on. Wish we'd seen more of him and he'd gotten to do more of his moments from the book.

I always figured it was somewhere inbetween. 50 for a Hobbit isn't the same as a human 50, but it also isn't teenage. Elijah looks a bit too young, but he still works for me in the role because he does a pretty good job. Not my favorite casting, but not awful either.

Nayrt

I figured the movies skipped the big time gap between Bibo's birthday party and Frodo setting out on his quest (I mean, 20 years go by and Sam still hasn't made a move on Rosie? More importantly, Sam, Merry, and Pippin would have only been kids at thge time of the party if they are supposed to be in teir 20s and 30s later) so what we're seeing is a 33 year-old Frodo, not a 50 year-old one, and I can accept hobbits look a lot like a human teen/20-something when they are 33.

Oh, that's a good point. That works. Because yes, 33 is supposed to be coming of age for Hobbits, so something like 18-20.

Could someone do a quick transcript, please? Can't see the image.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-11 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
Transcript: The LOTR movies were better, but Bilbo's portrayal was so much better than Frodo's. Not only is Bilbo a better character, but Elijah was one of the worst casting choices in any of these movies.

Thank you, kind anon :)

I don't mind Elijah as Frodo at all, but Bilbo was much more fun and interesting to watch. Frodo came across a lot younger and more sincere, and generally with less personality, whereas Bilbo had more charm. I suppose it fits the tone of the different stories though. Frodo is fine being boring because his journey and Sam's interactions with him are what make it interesting, but Bilbo needs more personality to be interesting.

I do think Martin as Bilbo was spot on casting, but I don't think Elijah was a bad choice for Frodo, just a little on the young side.

I agree with this.
