Question for writers

[personal profile] philstar22 2015-12-10 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Do you ever have days where the words just flow and you write so many more words than you usually do?

I've written three fics and 2 drabbles today. I've been writing all day. The words are just flowing and my muse is giving me all the ideas I need.

Sure. Make the better of your inspired day before it runs out!

Not often but it's wonderful when it happens. Ride the wave while you can!

Yep! I have Epic Inspiration Days sometimes. One day I wrote like 2k words without stopping. It was pretty awesome.

I've written about 4000 words today. I've never written that much in one day before.

Yup. Thanks. And the second fic I wrote is I think my favorite thing I've ever written. It is porny, but with more plot than I usually do. And I just love the whole idea and the characterization. I'm really happy with it.

Yep! Not as often as I used to, because creative days hate to correspond to days off, but sometimes I get hit right and can crack out 5k+

Not really. I can get myself into the zone pretty easily, although sometimes it requires a drink or two.

Words flowing in droves is actually how I get the bulk of my writing done. Between that is piles and piles of dry spells.

Re: Question for writers

Yup. I had some days during NaNo this year where I wrote about 7000 words per day. I would usually call 3000 a really good day, so it was fun to see how much I could actually write when really getting into it.

Once I get into the zone, words flow pretty freely. Sad thing is that it's dependent on my schedule, so I'll be really amped to write something but I have to work. I find I write best at night, so I often have to forego to sleep. But once I get started, I can make a run of several thousand words.

Absolutely. I love it when that happens!

I wrote a pretty good rough draft of a 1200 word scene in about a half hour the other day.

Today I've been struggling with a different scene in the same story off and on all day. I think I've managed about 300 words, and they're all shit.

That last bit is generally me. It takes me forever to write really short things that take most people a lot less time.

This probably would have been me if I wasn't at my boring day job all day. When I get home all the drive has been sucked out.

I do try to brainstorm and write little notes throughout the day, though.

Yes! Sadly they are compensated by days I can't even manage a paragraph.

Yeah, every so often I get days where I start writing and a while later I look and realize I've just gotten out 3000 words in one sitting. My max is usually less than a third of that, so those days are nice. Keep going while it lasts!

Yeah I had that the other day, sat down and just churned out a fic from start to finish in a couple of hours, it was amazing. Normally it takes me weeks to finish a fic.

Not in a while. I keep wanting to have a go at breaking my record for the most I've written in a day but I keep getting distracted by other things like school. I've gotten to 20k words several times but so far I haven't been able to get up to the next thousand.

Definitely. I started keeping track of my daily wordcounts to try to discern if there was any noticeable pattern to it, or if it was cyclic as some people theorize creativity to be.

Re: Question for writers

(Anonymous) 2015-12-11 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, I have streaks anddays where stories just write themselves. I don't want to stop writing and don't have to think as long about sentences as I usually do until I finally look up to see the sun rising and realise I wrote 6000 words.
(tmi: the most extreme instances tend to happen right before I get my period...)
