Anti-depressants and alcohol

(Anonymous) 2015-12-11 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, I know you're not supposed to, so don't give me that lecture.

But what's the max amount you can go with everything going to hell?

Who the fuck knows? It depends on the alcohol, the meds, your body weight, your tolerance for alcohol, what position the stars are in that day, how far above sea level you are.

There is no straight answer for this. "Antidepressant" isn't a single chemical class of drugs, and everyone has a different physiological reaction to a specific psychoactive medication anyway.

There is no general rule, anon, because that depends on you, your body size and other individual factors that other people have no way of knowing. You know this is a stupid idea, so don't come running to the internet looking for a loophole.

Two drinks. Never actually tried to push further.

As the others have said, there's no way to know. That's why it's advised not to risk it.

It depends on you. It is so individual. I've never had a problem, but I've always had few med side effects and a high alcohol tolerance.

I haven't noticed my drunkenness being notably different since being on anti-depressants.

I mean if you really want to know you could have a drink, wait a while, see how you feel, maybe have another drink, watch out for negative symptoms, maybe have a friend watch out for symptoms... like I wouldn't start throwing back shots but you could drink a little and see how you feel

My doc stressed to me that no amount of alcohol was safe.

Wait, what? What is this?

Are you not supposed to drink AT ALL while on anti-depressants? I have literally never heard this before and apparently I'm Doing It Wrong.

Maybe it depends on the drug?

I've been on the same med for 5-6 years and never had an issue, and yes, I've discussed my meds with my doctor, including my typical level of alcohol use. Maybe it's because I don't get drunk? But I've had 2 or 3 drinks in a night several times and had zero issues.

Take 'em all. If you want to kill yourself by mixing those, go right ahead.
