I once had an encounter with a person who would not have a fannish conversation with me until I'd answered all their questions about my ethnicity and upbringing. Their reasoning, such as it was, was they needed this information to put my opinions into proper context.

I'm aorry. But who my grandparents were has jack all to do with my feelings on yaoi.

That's...odd. Wow. I'd be creeped out by that, too.

And to my complete non surprise, like a good SJW it turned out this person was more interested in scoring oppression points for themselves, stanning other hypothetically oppressed strangers, and being completely horrible to the live people with whom they interacted when their beliefs didn't fall into lockstep. I maintained contact with this person because they were part of a larger social group I was a part of for several months.

It was awful. As soon as it was feasible, I quietly severed all contact, and was a much happier person as a result.
