Well, it's a few things. One, the role isn't going to be very demanding. She's playing the evil scientist who traps the host on the Satellite of Love and forces them to watch bad movies, it's not like you need Meryl Streep. Secondly, she's one of the most well known geeky actresses and the people who make TV/movies generally want to go with someone who's got name recognition.

I'm sure that she won't be the ONLY actress with geek cred we ever get, but she'll dominate these types of roles for a while simply because she's riding the momentum of her own fame + the conservatism of people who cast these roles.

I think she's kind of a terrible choice for the evil scientist, I don't think that goes towards what she can pull off comedy wise.

I think they'd be better off hiring an unknown who was legitimately funny.

I don't know the range of her acting abilities, but I've watched the original MST3K and... well, pretty sure *I* could pull off being a crazy mad scientist for two minutes at a time, so it can't be that hard.

Yeah, I utterly adore MST3K, but I'm a little surprised to see people acting like playing the mad scientists takes some great talent. The show wasn't exactly driven by the sterling performances of the actors.

Right? It's like, uh, did you see the original show? It was a good show, but it hardly requires the talents of the next Laurence Olivier.

It's not about acting abilities, it's about COMEDY abilities, which are two different things.

Like I am not even saying she is 100% not funny, just that her type of humor doesn't go towards the "evil scientist" route. Like I don't think she's a good actress but that doesn't concern me since MST3K is pretty hammy, it's more that I don't think she'll be good in any sense.

If you say so. Looking back at the original show, I'm still not seeing where it requires a genius of either acting or comedic talent, and I say that as a fan.
