I dunno what the heck you're reading, but the most prolific yuri authors who are women are lesbians. I've seen the straight women writing yuri you're talking about but it's not as common as you say and it's usually just a one off. There's plenty of actual lesbians writing and drawing yuri.

I read all sorts of yuri, some recced by friends, some random, etc. I never meant to imply the most prolific authors weren't lesbians. What I meant to imply was that these people seem to be insisting that if it's written by a woman for a woman it MUST be good, and if it's written by a man (or "fap material for men") it must not be. Considering the fact that many male authors write under female pseudonyms in Japan for shoujo/yuri work it's kind of impossible to gauge this anyway. I wanted to make the point that it's not an automatic A+ awesome if a girl wrote it. I've seen some yuri written by straight women that just comes off as stiff, awkward and kind of gross, where I've seen yuri written by men that I thoroughly enjoyed. I personally prefer the author has some interest in the female body.

As an aside, most of the guys I know who enjoy yuri actually enjoy it for the romance aspect too, even if they enjoy sex scenes too (oh those horrible demons!).

The comment I replied to was just a clusterfuck of sexism.

that certainly seems to be going very much against conventional wisdom
