OH, so very fun.
Harry Houdini Marco is facing a long, boring summer until he meets a wizard who gives him the gift of flight. Except he doesn't know how to *do* that, getting bruised and scraped up in his adventures. (Hence the 'black and blue' part.)

By Zilpha Keatly Snyder, who also wrote The Changeling, which is just as amazing. Mousy Martha meets Ivy, who claims to be a changeling. The two girls couldn't be more different, but they become best friends, living in a world of magic and imagination. Loved this book so much, too! :)

They may be at your local library, but you can also get them from Ms Snyder's website, they've recently been reissued (they were written in the early seventies).
