Personally I've always been a bit confused about elf-kin, I even went browsing tumblr tags for those once, and basically most of them seemed to feel a connection to the forest and want pointy ears, and idk, it just seemed very base-level knowledge of (Tolkien-like) elves. Most countries have local types of wood sprites or fair folk, why not claim kinship to them? I think I'd respect that more than just vague sense of wanting to be as pretty as an elf and really liking forests.

Also, I've never seen dwarf-kin or orc-kin so there's that too.

(There's also angel-kin, which was... a can of worms I didn't even want to get into)
