The world SW is set in is really cool, but I wouldn't care half as much about it if the characters weren't so great, and I think this film did a wonderful job of bringing back old ones and introducing new ones. All the scenes with the new and old cast were lovely.

Also agreed about the spirit of the film and the balance. It hit in just the right places for me; I was not bored, not once.

It actually looks gritty and lived in and real

Yea, and it was apparent from the start! I enjoyed that too. Personally, I'm fine with AOS Star Trek looking shiny, but the grittiness felt natural for SW.

the stakes and motivations are genuine, and people are allowed to be flawed

Yesssss. Everyone felt real and interesting.

It took some very different decisions than the EU did and that's interesting

One of the first things I heard when walking out of the theater was some guy going, "Have you read the books? Might as well not, this obliterated those." lol

As for Sith/Jedi, I'm ready. So ready. BRING ON ALL THE LIGHTSABER BATTLES. BRING ON THE STRUGGLE BETWEEN LIGHT AND DARK. IDC, JUST BRING IT.
