I'm not mad in love with it, but I did enjoy it a lot and it was a fun movie.

Finn and Rey are great, and yay lady Jedi! I did think that Finn picking up the lightsaber in the trailer was a false flag, now it remains to be seen who exactly Rey is the daughter of(I'm thinking it could be Luke but I'm not set on that, could be another force sensitive person we haven't met yet).

Kylo Ren's voice in the mask was fucking rad though, also his look is just cool in general. I wtf-ed a bit over giant bad-guy dude until it was clear he was a hologram(thought the SW universe suddenly gained giant people for a moment).

Poe was cool, we didn't get much of him but I'd like to see more.

Phasma while completely cool looking was sadly really wasted in this movie, like she did nothing so I hope they fix that in future films.

Han's death was sad but fitting, like I wasn't surprised at all because it was being set up pretty heavily prior to that point and for me it wasn't a cheap move, it made an impact and had a point.

They one-upped a Death Star, well alrighty then.

And I've mentioned Finn before but I'll mention him again because he was such a cutie, I liked him a lot.

But uh yeah, it was fun.

Oh but I will add: the lightsaber fights were cool and holy hell did they up the force powers, Ren stopping that plasma blast in the air was badass.

I did think that Finn picking up the lightsaber in the trailer was a false flag

That seemed to be a common thought amongst fans, and I figured as much as well, but a part of me was worried it wouldn't be. I'm so pleased to get an awesome lady Jedi! (Or, well...force sensitive person who will no doubt become a Jedi in future installments.) Rey was exactly what I wanted from this film.

I went into the movie thinking she might be Luke's daughter, but now I'm not sure. Wish I had a copy to look back at for those flashbacks when she grabbed Luke's lightsaber, but some fans think that she might have been one of Luke's students (before shit went down), and had her memory wiped or something. Not entirely sure about that theory either though, but it would be interesting and would explain how excellent she was with a lightsaber there at the end.

his look is just cool in general

I am a sucker for a black cape. Holy shit, do I like a form fitting costume with a cape. His outfit was incredible and I loved looking at him.

I wtf-ed a bit over giant bad-guy dude

Pretty sure I spent half the film confused over that.

Poe was cool

Poe's attitude won me over, despite his little screen-time. That scene he had with Kylo Ren was so snarky and his immediate like for Finn made him seem like a sweetheart.

so I hope they fix that in future films

I've heard she'll be back, and I'm almost certain she has a bigger role next time. I hope so, anyway. It would be a shame to waste that excellent costume and Gwendoline's amazing voice on short scenes like the ones she had in this film. I mean, I liked her anyway, but you're right, she didn't do much.

Han's death was sad but fitting

Yea, I think so too. I dreaded this, thinking for sure Han was going to die, and not being a big fan of the idea. (It was predictable, can't deny that.) The execution worked for me, though. It was very emotional, it worked for the story, the acting was fantastic. (For both Han and Kylo Ren.) So as much as it hurts to have Han and Leia separated again, I'm not angry about it. (Just...understandably sad.)

They one-upped a Death Star

Ha, yea. That was a bit, "Okay."

because he was such a cutie

For me, maybe the cutest. God, I loved Finn. Together with Rey there's so much adorableness and sunshine.

the lightsaber fights were cool and holy hell did they up the force powers

There wasn't much lightsaber fighting, but what was there was memorable and extremely well done. The force powers in general looked great; very badass! Any bit with Ren using his force powers was something I liked watching. (The force pull especially!) And Rey freeing herself, while it didn't look like much, was such a hilarious and fantastic scene.

(Late reply but I was asleep when this came in).

Rey was freaking great, I like her as a new potential Jedi and I hope Luke takes her on to train her more because she already seemed pretty powerful without training, so with, yeesh imagine her power.

Yeah there's lots of theories floating about, one of my friends thinks that she could be Ren's sister and Luke mind-wiped Han and Leia but... that doesn't feel likely to me. So Luke's daughter or she just happens to be a random girl who got abandoned who turns out to be very force sensitive. I'm happy to find out either way.

His cape+black outfit is cool af, it really is. Major screen presence there tbh.

Yeah Poe seems nice, I've seen touted around that he's likely to be the 'Han' of the new three so hopefully he'll get some more fleshing out in the next two films as this one really had a fair amount of focus on Han(for obvious reasons, again, not a wasted death).

That's good to hear because I'd seen her touted about and I thought 'oh cool lady bad-guy' and theeeeeen... nada. It was a bit disappointing tbh, but if she comes back that will be good. Make her do more stuff Abrahms!

Yeah it could have felt really cheap and a waste of a character but imo they did a good job with the set-up and it worked. It was a strong character moment and made sense, I'm sad for it but it's a death I can accept.

I laughed a little in the cinema when we saw the Death Planet thing like 'lol wat'. It looked cool though, and according to my bf he thinks it was inspired by a machine in one of the Star Wars games.

HE IS THE MOST SUNSHINEST PERSON. Really he was so damn cute, and scared and brave even though he was scared. Precious bb.

I am mostly here for force powers and lightsabers fights if I'm honest and I liked them all, and yeah Ren just yoinking people around was pretty cool and Rey learning how to do hers, very nice. (It does make me a tad wistful to see how they'd do Darth Vader now though with the tech they have these days).

Oh and there was a nice blend of CG and practical effects which was neat.
