I wouldn't say I'm happy, but the reasons for my unhappiness have nothing to do with my relationship status. I'd say I'm satisfied and content with being single forever and ever.

And that should be enough! I know that what you're saying is 100% true, except I can't shake the feeling that not wanting a girlfriend/wife/etc. means I've somehow malfunctioned as a human being.

That feeling is probably due to societal conditioning. Bleh.

I would agree it's likely societal conditioning. Terms like "spinster", "confirmed bachelor", "eccentric", and "crazy cat lady" only strengthen the thought that there is something "wrong" with (especially a woman) not wanting to be in a romantic relationship.

As someone who was in romantic relationships from a very early age until her mid-thirties and is now quite happy being single, you do you, OP. Wish I'd realized that about myself earlier. :)
