I haven't seen many stories where the genderswap totally eliminates the gay from a pairing, though

I don't see it as often anymore (though it's probably still hanging around), but it used to be pretty prevalent years ago when slash was still kind of controversial in fandom and people would constantly "flame" fics just for being slash. I used to see a lot of people who would ship things like girl!Harry/Draco and whatever who still talked about how disgusting they found slash to be in their profiles. It was pretty funny/dumb

I've seen it happen in some Marvel/MCU circles too. Swapping Tony Stark or Bucky because "Captain America can't be gay!!!". Of course Marvel did no favors by making a canon universe where Tony is a woman and marries Steve...
