I wanted to like Rey, and I did like Rey... but I also feel a bit skeptical about her being so overpowered? Like, she's better at the Millennium Falcon than Han, and just because she's sensitive to the Force or whatever she is a master lightsaber wielder? Not to mention, she can suddenly use the force to mind control her way out of captivity. One of these things alone would be cool, maybe even two, but all three?
But I liked her personality. I think I just want to see her fail a bit, and see more flaws.
Other than that, yeah. BB8 and Finn were cute as fuck. Poe was rogueishly likable, though at this point, objectively speaking, he's just the snarky wild card pilot and we've seen that character before. Let's hope we get to know him more. Phasma was wasted, but now that I've heard she comes back I feel a little better about that. I even liked some of the original music - the theme when Rey is introduced was awfully pretty. I expected Han to die, though I thought it was very well-done - but then I thought Chewie blew himself up and that was a slap in the face, was glad he made it and it'll be kind of interesting to think of him being separate from Han now.
I hope Leia has a bigger role. I like plot lines with lost sons being redeemed or saved by parents - obviously killing his dad makes it look like that'll be hard but I hope Leia pulls through somehow. Ren or Ben or whatever his name was, was a sweet bad guy though. Very impressed, loved his tantrums.

I didn't take it as her being better so much as her being a bit of a wiz kid and Han being 'out of practice'. He needed time to readjust.

Well, her visions are something that might be able to explain some of that. (Notice I say 'might' because that scene was fast and I was kind of distracted, so I could still be wrong.) She might have even had some force training by this point, but for whatever reason not remember it. If not...well, she's just extremely strong in the force, I suppose.

Given we don't know all about Rey's past, it's possible she's used the force before but wasn't even aware of it at the time. I suppose I see why you might be skeptical, but I loved Rey and her story so much that I was fine with it.

I was shocked to see Chewie alive after Han's death. Not disappointed, but I honestly think it would've worked either way. At the same time, I can't say I'm not glad that Rey won't have a 'partner'.

Also agreed about Leia; I would be totally fine with her having twice the screentime. I really want to see her try to redeem Kylo (Kylo is a cooler name then Ben, okay?!) and I would be fine with her succeeding. I would also be fine with her failing, as long as he still seems a bit regretful. No matter what, I just want more family drama with them.
Kylo Ren was great though; I def felt more for him than most recent villains because of his conflict. His tantrums actually made me laugh but I loved seeing a villain lose their shit like that. (It's kind of childish, but...well, considering his whole plot...)

If there's a logical explanation as to why she was so suddenly strong with the Force and great at lightsabers - like, was one of Luke's students before being sent away, and just lost her memories or something. But until then, I do maintain that she was a bit OP'd. I still liked her though. But compared to Luke, who was whiny, weak, and constantly needed to be saved, Rey is just a bit too capable right now, I think.
I agree that Chewie's fate was effective either way. It would've been really shocking and powerful if he had died. But since we were led to believe he did, it was kind of relieving to see him come back and provide the ship out for Rey and Finn. Plus, who knows, maybe we'll get a little more substance to his character - if he rightly has one of his own - without Han in the next films. It's interesting to have a solo Chewie, so to speak! Depressing, but interesting.
And yeah! Hopefully Leia's got a lot more screen time coming up. Since the family connections seem to be such a trigger to Kylo, she seems to useful to the plot to kill off or shove to the sidelines soon. It might be nice to have a "mother" figure in the series, just as the original trilogy had such a strong "father" figure.
Haha, yeah, the Stormtroopers backing away at one of Kylo Ren's tantrums was hilarious and meant to be funny, but he's also clearly pretty unstable. It's a nice twist for a Star Wars villain, who are usually more cold and calculating rather than rash and emotional. Unless you count Annakin himself from episode 3, I guess!

She has been on her own for god knows how long though! Having to defend herself and take care of herself did make her capable. It also kind of explains her personality; she doesn't have time to be whiny and probably doesn't see the point of it. Luke grew up with a family, and though he didn't live an extravagant life, he did have some small luxuries that Rey doesn't. That's besides the force stuff though, but I think it does explain her attitude and general strength.
Plus, who knows, maybe we'll get a little more substance to his character - if he rightly has one of his own - without Han in the next films.
I have to think that's why Chewie was saved. If they don't plan to bring him back in some respect, it would've been just as well to let him sacrifice himself.

I don't think that Kylo would be allowed to kill both his parents, lmao. Let's hope not. I would love for a confrontation between Leia and Kylo that shakes him to his core, but it better not end with Leia dead; been there, done that. Plus, what you said about the series having a 'mother' figure would be lovely.

I definitely count Anakin from SW3, but I don't think Revenge of the Sith was a good film, and while I thought Anankin's story in that film had a lot of potential, I did not at all like the execution of it. Kylo Ren's instability and conflict felt more real and less sudden to me, and I guess it was a combination of the script and the acting. That's one of the reasons I like Kylo, actually; he feels less one-note than a lot of villains, even Star Wars villains. (That I love despite not being the most complex bunch.)
