nayrt

Would you please mind explaining why it is that the typical ex-Christian atheist's attitude regarding their atheism is exactly the same as the attitude that the typical Christian has regarding their Christianity? Why is it that most ex-Christian atheists take an approach to people whose beliefs and values differ from their that is exactly the same as the way Christians deal with people who beliefs and values differ from theirs?

There are so, so many ex-Christian atheists have that exact same arrogance and "my way or the highway" bullshit mentality that Christians have.

You may not be a Christian anymore, but you can't seriously expect me to believe that being raised Christian hasn't had a huge influence on the way you perceive reality.

Your entire argument is based on a false premise due to selection bias. And I'll thank you to not tell me how I perceive reality, sugar cookie.

The reason a small percentage of atheists behave the way you describe has nothing to do with their cultural background and everything to do with resentment over a society that tends to marginalize secular or otherwise non-Christian people. It's exactly the same reason a lot of young neopagans from Christian families are such insufferable mallgoths -- it's an act of rebellion against a Christian culture that is at times repressive and abusive. It's also a result of the religious right having an actual effect on public policy (such as abortion rights and education) -- that alone is worth getting angry with.

I'd argue it's also partly due to many (male) atheists being that kind of entitled douchebag who thinks their opinion somehow matters more. A lot of them are MRAs who mistake utter horseshit about women and female anatomy for scientific fact. There's nobody more irritating than someone with an inflated sense of their own intelligence.

I don't have an inflated sense of my own intelligence. I freely admit I'm not as smart as a lot of people out there.

It just so happens that most anons like you are just dumber than me. :)

Why are you so condescending to everyone all the time?

I love how "you're so condescending" always gets trotted out when I'm responding to someone being condescending.
