The Force Awakens

(Anonymous) 2015-12-21 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Figures out today make it clear that it has had the biggest opening in history, and anyone who has not seen it is an idiot for leaving it so long. In other words, the spoilers are out there and you should all shut up about spoilers just because you chose to leave it til after Christmas and don't want anyone discussing it before you can chime in.

I think you sound like an asshole.

Just go see the movie, dude.

I do not care about SW but I dislike strangers on the Internet calling people idiot only because they cannot or don't want to see a movie on opening weekend. I understand being annoyed by people complaining they got spoiled when they didn't bother sheltering themselves. But judging a person's character on their movie-going habits is asshole behaviour.

I have seen the movie, but I still dislike people who are assholes about spoilers.

Yeah, but that's how the world works though. If you were stupid enough to go online and expect not to have the biggest movie of the year/one of the biggest geek franchises spoiled for you, then it's kind of your fault, ya know?

I haven't seen it because my finals don't end until tomorrow. Some people haven't seen them because their work is keeping them extra late and extra long during the holiday season. I'm sure a lot of people are in the same or similar situations. Don't be a dick.

Yeah, if you didn't want to be spoiled, you would have seen the movie already.

Though what I really want is for me to never have to hear about Star Wars in my life ever again, but we all know that's not happening.

Well there were a lot of flaws in this one, with Jar Jar Abrams understanding even less about how big space is than Lucas as well as not understanding how to build weighted character moments, so as big as it opened there is still stuff the next movie has to fix to ensure it doesn't bomb. You may yet get your holiday wish.

But yeah, anyone not seen it yet has made a conscious choice not to and does not need their own sense of self importance catered to.

... and it doesn't open in China until Jan 9.

I haven't seen it because I don't give J.J. Abrams my money, and I don't care about Star Wars.

Don't be a wiener.

Some people aren't lucky enough to see things right when they come out due to circumstances. Some people have to wait a while.

It really isn't that hard to label something as having spoilers in it, so people can avoid spoilers if they choose too.

I don't think it is weird someone has not seen it. But if you venture onto the internet (especially in fandom settings) and get spoiled. That is your own fucking fault.

Also, I can't wait until 4 months from now when people start ripping Star Wars apart. :D

And then one year from now when the new Star Wars comes out and people become even more disillusioned. And then the inevitable spiral.

Don't people have better things to do than to get judgy over when one goes to see a movie?

You're an asshole.

I'm seeing it with my Mom after Christmas, as that's the only time we'll be together.

And yet Guillermo del Toro can't get funding for Mountains of Madness. Fuck's wrong with the world?

If only Mountains of Madness had more car chases and street racing and a part for Vin Diesel...

While I do think not unfollowing facebook groups for star wars and clicking spoiler cuts on LJ comms and then complaining is stupid, it's not that unreasonable for those of us who may have reasons for waiting. A lot of people will want to see it with family over the holidays, and many of us haven't had time because of holiday stuff. I would've seen it earlier but I've been booked pretty solid with other commitments all month.

Actually had a really interesting discussion with a coworker about this movie today without a single spoiler, since i haven't seen it and he has. So - it's not like it's impossible, if the people you know aren't utter dicks.

Figures out today make it clear that it has had the biggest opening in history, and anyone who has not seen it is an idiot for leaving it so long.

First off, here's a tip: If you're going to call anyone an idiot, you should learn proper grammar first.

Second, I don't care how popular a movie is. There are many reasons why "anyone has not seen it." Just to name a few, 1) Crowds, 2) lack of funds, 3) lack of time, 4) indifference, 5) plans to see it some time after today but before the movie leaves the theatre, including before Christmas (and this is a perfectly valid decision).

Third, there's a difference between choosing not to view the movie while avoiding spoilers, and choosing not to view the movie while being careless around spoiler-prone places. Maybe if you quit foaming at the mouth for one second and let your brain form a coherent thought, you'd realize not everyone who decides to not see a movie isn't having a hard time figuring out that yes, there are indeed spoilers out there.
