Individually wrapped spiral striped seasonal candy

(Anonymous) 2015-12-22 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
Cane or stick?
Original or flavored?
Mini or jumbo?

Discuss.

They make my teeth stick together, and if I eat a candy cane I have to deal with the wrapper while holding the stick. In short, you can have my candy cane.

Cane! Both mini and jumbo, mostly peppermint, though I'll make an exception for cherry or raspberry flavored candy canes. I also love those softer peppermint puffs, though they're more old fashioned and not as easy to find.

Original flavored normal sized candy cane. They're the cheapest and great for stirring hot chocolate. And then drinking the hot chocolate because it some point it either turns into a straw or a murder weapon.

for some reason it's never occurred to me to use candy canes as swizzle sticks. that's an awesome idea.

also, I'm laughing at "either turns into a straw or a murder weapon".
"oops, it's gone murdery again"

I dig the original flavored (peppermint) canes and pieces, but I like one of those rainbow cherry canes every once in awhile too. I like the cinnamon ones as well but they aren't as common where I am ('Murrca).

Cane or stick. Original. Jumbo.

Canes are more festive, but if I'm being totally honest, I find the shape somewhat inconvenient to eat. So sticks are better in that regard, but stick candy is year-round and thus less special. Ribbon candy is a fucking terrible shape, but on the other hand it also tends to come in clove, which I like.

Mint it preferable. If it is not mint, it must be very clearly a different color combination, especially if it is cherry/strawberry/tutti fruiti or cinnamon-- all of which might conceivably be coded with red. If it is white/red or white/red/green, it should be mint.

Minis are great if you want to eat the whole thing and not feel bad. It's awkward trying to save a half-eaten cane. But minis also tend to be lower-quality. Very good for crushing and putting on top of peppermint brownies. But for eating out of hand, I've had artisanal hand-made candy canes before and they are freaking great. Dark red and creamy yellow-white, thicker than the kind in the supermarket. So good.

I HAVE STRONG FEELINGS ABOUT CANDY CANES, AMA.

Do you feel a profound sense of loss when the cane is broken inside the unopened wrapper?

I do for full-size canes. But I frequently break mini canes at the bend, because of the aforementioned issue with the shape. It's just not fun when you're sucking on the long part of the mini cane and the hook part of it is bumping into your top lip. And that can probably be misconstrued into some kind of weird innuendo, but it's TRUE.

Cane, peppermint, the sort of pearly shimmery kind with the tiny stripes in between the big stripes. They're prettier than the kind with just plain red and white stripes.

Canes, peppermint, and I have no idea what you mean by jumbo.

Candy canes are my one seasonal candy I really like. I think Easter eggs are expensive and Halloween is cheap and crappy. Thing is, the packets of candy canes I buy are probably cheap crap too, but they are still peppermint candy, so they are cheap crap that I like.

I have a super weird love for candy canes and could easily eat candy canes all the time, all year, every other day. I'll eat most flavors (my boss bought me some Spree ones I haven't gotten around to yet) but I usually prefer just the boring old mint ones because other flavors have a habit of being way too super sweet & then I can't finish it. I reaaaaaally like the normal sized ones, especially when they're sharpened to a deadly point, but mini ones are easier to eat. I've bought jumbo ones for people but I don't think I've ever bought one for myself. maybe this year will be the advent of Jumbo Canes in my house (esp with all those damn Hammonds stands at the store, they always look incredible).

sort've on topic: ribbon candy. I've never had it but it looks super weird & I always come really close to buying it & then never do because I'm just... so not sure how to eat that.
