My suggestion would be to maybe examine the parts of the fic that OP feels are the best examples of their writing and see if it's something in the style, or perhaps the type of story (police work) that they can use in original fiction rather than just lifting directly.

Even if it is their own work, there can (and has been) backlash about using all or even parts of ones own fanfiction and filing off the serial numbers in order to turn it into original fiction.

I think it might have to do with quality, though. Some of the most famous examples are Cassandra Claire - who had massive drama surrounding her and plagiarism accusations and whatnot, and FSoG which is terrible all around.
If you write a decent story and do a decent job of reworking the characters into something new, people might be more forgiving.
