The sound of the Russian language. I think it's pretty. I also like it way better than the way French sounds, which I understand is blasphemy.

Eh, it's probably because I grew up with Slavic languages...but, I findthem just so much more complex and poetic than French. I never quite understood the obsession. If we're going for Romanesque languages, I find Italian far prettier.

I think there's a difference if you understand the language, though. I speak neither Russian nor French, I'm going purely by the sound of it.
Much like I find Korean prettier-sounding than Japanese.

But yeah, I don't get why French is such a big deal.

Well, knowing the language can make it worse, in a way. I know a lot of people who speak *ugly* French if that makes sense.

Yeah, it does. I think that once you speak a language, you get a whole bunch of other biases towards it, which are based on people you know/experiences/what it's like to learn it, and who knows what else. It's interesting to hear what people think of languages when they *don't* understand anything.
For example, nowadays I think Japanese sounds fine (I can understand it), but I still remember that at first I thought it was a rather angry sounding language.

I like the...staccato of Japanese. Western languages rarely have that.

I get that. For me, I prefer slightly more melodic languages, which I think is one of the reasons I prefer Korean - it has some of the style of Japanese, but more vowels and consonants. And the intonations are really fun, especially if you're annoyed or complaining.

One language I really want to learn, which has very little practical value for me, is Welsh. Language goals for when I've achieved something close to fluency in Korean/Japanese, I guess.
