Steam refunds

(Anonymous) 2015-12-22 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
So it turns out, after waiting and buying myself Fallout 4 as a Christmas present, and being so excited for it ALL DAY TODAY, my POS computer is just under the minimum standards to actually, you know, run the game.

Now I have to request a refund.

Anyone else done this? How long does Steam take to process a refund?

Why not just upgrade your computer? Are you on a desktop? You could just buy a new GPU (you might need a new power supply to support it) and have it put in.

Because I can't afford that.

If your PC is under the minimum, I guess you can't afford to buy a computer made this decade either. Oh well.

It's 3 years old. Which year did you start this decade on?

My computer is older than that and it can handle FO4 just fine.

That's good for you. It doesn't help me any.

Just save up the money and get a new GPU. A good one is cheaper than buying a new computer, anyway, even if you have to buy a more powerful PSU to support it.

It's not that easy. Everything has to be compatible with the motherboard, and if you already have the most powerful GPU for your comp, then you're shit out of luck. You'd essentially have to replace the entire insides of your comp.

While that's true, it's also not as huge a factor as it used to be.

It's actually a really fast and painless process. In my experience, they'll refund you within a day.

Good to know, thank you.

I've done it a few times. It generally takes several days. (If I try to get a refund during a sale, the sale will typically be over by the time the refund comes through.)

Aw... okay. I have a week or so before family descends, so I was hoping to get some gameplay in something, but if it takes a few days then it does, I guess. Thanks.

Why... why would you not check the minimum requirements of a game before purchasing it?

Re: Steam refunds

(Anonymous) 2015-12-22 01:45 am (UTC)(link)
Because I'm a dumbass I guess? The reason isn't relevant to the question I asked.

Well shit

(Anonymous) 2015-12-22 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
I wanted to refund something I got on Steam for the same reason and I could have sworn it said no refunds. But I've had the game for over a month now, so I guess it's too late for me.

:( That sucks, anon. I didn't know you could, either, but it came up as a clickable option when I went to the support section for the game. Here's the info page, in case you need it for the future?

They are on a no refunds policy now, it is your responsibility to check your machine can run the game before purchasing. You won't see a dime.

That is not what they say.

I have done it. It was easy. I think it has to be within a certain number of days since you bought it and you have to have played less than a certain number of hours.

That being said, if you really want to play it, I would suggest taking a look here: https://www.reddit.com/r/lowendgaming/comments/3sgfrb/the_can_i_run_fallout_4_unofficial_megathread/

I haven't played it myself, but since I have managed to play Dragon Age: Inquisition on integrated graphics, I know that it is possible to play the recent, big name games on shitty systems.

I did the same thing, got a refund in 24 hours, didn't download or log any minutes in the game.
