there's an idea/stereotype in the US that european guys are more easily mistaken for gay by american gay stereotypes--care more about how they dress and grooming, are more physically affectionate, etc

I personally find it depressing that any guy who takes any time on his appearance is gay, and all "real" men should be ungroomed gorillas. Fuck that noise, I like well-dressed men who take care of themselves.

Yeah, I know I just wonder how that actually plays out - because obviously here we also have gay guys who are more feminine than average - so is there like a scale system? Are straight American males unusually butch? Inquisitive minds want to know.

traditional american male masculinity is very very...yeah, butch? American Men!!(tm) hunt and/or work on their cars and smoke and drink whiskey and *don't* fuss about their appearance

it's stupid and gross

also that American macho culture is really agressive and scary and I kinda understand the whole rapeculture- deal whenever I hear how american men talk when they're boys only. In europe, not so much. At least not in my part or even any of the traditional "macho" places like italy or spain.
