I have a friend who is the sweetest person in the world and she runs several blogs, including a body positivity one and an expressly feminist one. All she ever talks about is taking care of yourself and occasionally how to be a good ally to queer people and survivors of sexual violence (she is both). She is ROUTINELY threatened with murder and rape for saying these things.

No, you're right, it's some people. Some women can be absolute scum too. But yes, you're also right in that this level of evil seems to be mostly in the male domain. It's vastly more often men who are this vile.

People are awful and feel threatened by the very idea that we shouldn't treat women, queer people, survivors of sexual attack and overweight people like shit. If I had a dollar for every time I saw body positivity being slammed as fat people lying and making excuses for being fat instead of being properly ashamed for how they look, I could pay off my student loans.

They say things like that because they are horrible, shitty people who feel entitled to speak such horrible, shitty things to anyone they want, and the internet makes it easy for them or they are deluded in thinking the internet protects shitty people from consequences.
