Well I'm at least glad he wasn't. Boyega was perfect from my POV; the guy is a great actor and charming as hell. He's so pleased and excited to have the role too that I couldn't help but be happy for him even before seeing his performance. (He's a big fan and looks like he won the lottery when he talks about it. It's adorable.)

But I think I've only seen this guy in a few episodes of Fargo and I didn't care for him or anyone else. His acting wasn't bad, I just didn't connect with the characters.

Anyway, I think it's great to have a bit more diversity in SW.

I haven't seen the movie yet but I agree that he's really adorable out of character.

Hopefully you made the diversity part sufficiently afterthought-like to avoid people accusing you of not caring about acting ability.

He is absolutely a delight to watch, in and out of the film. He's got a great sense of humor and is extremely likable.

If people take me saying, “This guy gave an amazing performance in this role and in addition to that I think it's neat having a POC as a main character" to be me going all “SJW" then I would just laugh at the ridiculousness.

Also, yea, like there are no decent non-white actors to choose from. The film has one!

Exactly this, sans actually having watched Fargo. I'm sure this person is fine, and as long as people like Kellan Lutz, Taylor Kitch, and to a slightly lesser extent, Chris Hemsworth keep getting chances to star in stuff, he will too.

From what I read up thread it sounds like he has a good career. Especially recently, he's got some great jobs. (Fargo is critically acclaimed, so was Breaking Bad...) So while I get liking an actor and wanting to see them in other things I imagine he'll do fine.

John Boyega is so cute, so goddamn cute. Like I love that he loves being in these movies and is so excited about it(and I'm not even a huge fan but seeing his enthusiasm is wonderful). I saw a gifset(either posted by you or someone else) where it was a mock-interview or something at a photo-shoot and someone was asking him for an autograph so he roots through his bags to find a pen and it's full of Star Wars toys and he keeps pulling out more and more, it was great. Like he pokes fun at himself for being such a big fan, it's adorable.

I'm also certain I reblogged that one. At one point Daisy Ridley comes in with another suitcase full, lol.

He's such a dork; I love seeing those pictures of Harrison Ford signing his Han Solo action figure. He has the biggest grin on his face; you can tell he's genuinely happy and feels so lucky to have the opportunity to be in SW.

I mean, if he had sucked in the role, okay... But he's easily one or the most lovable characters in the film series for me, so that totally isn't the case. I can't imagine anyone else in that role.

Yes! That's the one! It probably was you but I've got a few people reblogging Star Wars on my dash atm so I can't remember precisely who it was.

I know, he's so excited and it's hard not to grin along with him. I'm very happy for him to have gotten the part because it seems like it's a dream come true for him.(And honestly if I was an actor and I was going to be in a Marvel movie or Star Trek I would be over the moon).

He really is, he won me over pretty quick, like when it was more serious at the beginning and he wouldn't fire on the villagers and seemed so genuinely scared back on the Star Destroyer I felt for him, and then he broke Poe out and we got to see more of his sweet-natured and goofy side. He's great.

What I really love about Boyega in that first scene is how terrified and off put he looks. He's wearing the helmet so you can't even see his facial expression, but something about his body language just screams, “nervous and afraid". He's very good at expressing himself (Even without words) and is extremely charismatic.
