I want my aunt to make it through the day without breaking down. It's her first Christmas since her husband died earlier this year.

That none of the kids touch the food. And they behave reasonably well.

That no one asks me where I live/how my job is going/or any life questions.

That the family doesn't actually stay too long.

My uncle is coming for Christmas. The man belongs to the Communist Party. :/

My plan this year is to fill him up with champagne. He might still talk politics, but he'll be much funnier.

When people talk politics with you, you have to politic them. So look up some crazy politics news stories. So when he starts complaining about something, you can be like, "OMG! Yes, did you hear about that guy in Vermont that wants to ban giraffes? What is up with that??"

It also works with conspiracy theory people. "You know the government wants to make __________ to take away our freedom!!" "Omg, Uncle Bob. You think that is bad? The government started using the technology from Roswell to turn children into baby cows!! IT IS MODERN DAY EVIL ALCHEMY!"

Is company on Christmas Day. :( We're doing the family Christmas on Boxing Day this year because my brother has to work, and my sister was going to come watch movies with me on Christmas Day, but she cancelled because she's 'too tired'... several days in advance.

I know it's just another day to a lot of people, but I'm really bummed out about it.

For my pre-trip anxiety to go away. I'm getting reassured from all kinds of fronts that the non-Canada fam will love the crap out of me, that the flight is going to be despite all the last minute changes that keep happening to it, and that no I'm not going to die in a riot or catch the dengue. But it's not working. Come on, Santa :(

To not be in debt to my parents (as I discovered just this morning) by $1,000 dollars.
(Basically they put money in my account so I could take care of expenses for them while they were overseas, and things got very confused, which is why I didn't realise)

I made a promise to myself to give myself a drama-free holiday, and if I have to be by myself in order to make that happen, then I'm 100% comfortable with and perfectly willing to do that.

Honestly... I would love it if my mother in law came down with the flu and couldn't come to Christmas dinner. She's not an evil person, just rather insensitive and oblivious so it's guaranteed she's going to say something offensive, hurtful, totally TMI, whatever. I'd just like to not have to deal with that.

This may be semi-material, but for the game I bought on Ebay to hurry the fuck up and get here. As it is though, I won't be checking for it until the 27th, because public holidays.

Well, this is material, but it's related to a non-material thing.

I wish I would get a new used car to keep so I can gift my mom my car so I can no longer be her and my brother's personal chauffeur for anything and everything. B/ This has been stressing me out since June/July.

For my mom to be sober and clean and her cancer to be in remission. (Yeah, kind of material, but can't be bought, although if I won the lotto the first thing I'd buy is the services of a sober companion/minder, Elementary style.)

Maybe ask him beforehand not to talk politics at dinner? Or ask the whole family to make dinner a politics free zone during Christmas?

All I want for Christmas is peace and quiet (though a new stove and washer would be nice).
