Would you kill a rapist? No in self defence, but just to prevent him from raping anyone else?

What about revenge if he raped you or someone you love?

No, no, and yes. I don't believe in capital punishment.

Killing is ONLY acceptable in immediate self-defense (or immediate defense of others) assuming the situation calls for deadly force and can't be contained otherwise. Killing for any other reason is murder, no matter how despicable the person is.

"To prevent him from raping anyone else?" Pretty sure if you think the person is in danger of imminent harm, you can claim self defense to help them (or use it to protect yourself from chargers).

In that case, I would probably try to incapacitate them as much as needed. I guess, if I accidentally killed them, it would happen. But I would feel fucking awful about it.

I he was *actively* trying to rape someone in front of me, I might. But as a vigilante? Heck no.

As for revenge? I cannot say. I have been fortunate enough not to have it happen, so I can't say how I'd react.

Honestly, it'd be pretty unrealistic for a 5-foot, skinny girl with no fighting skills whatsoever to accomplish that in the first place! Either way, I don't like the idea of killing someone in the name of revenge (and I don't like the death penalty either). I'd call the cops on them, though?

What kind of fighting skills do you need to aim a gun and pull a trigger? (Yes, I realize that it's not necessarily that easy in the heat of the moment, but Sam Colt called it "the great equalizer" for a reason.)

That being said, I'm in the same boat as most here; I would not murder a rapist unless he was raping someone right in front of me and refused to stop.

And I am actually pro-death penalty in some (extremely heinous murder) cases.

I have and I didn't lose much sleep over it.

Do I believe in murdering people? Nope.

If it was guaranteed that I'd never be caught or punished for it, yes. Even then, if he actually raped someone I love, I'd be tempted even if I knew I'd be caught and punished.

Yet I don't believe capital punishment is a good idea. Not because of the moral issues behind killing someone, but because it's a huge financial burden on the state and because the convicted criminal can drag appeals out for YEARS, wasting taxpayer money and putting the victims' families through unnecessary grief.
