Minecraft!

I want to play Minecraft with my brother. But I am a bit confused by servers. Do I need to host a server like shown in these directions? http://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Tutorials/Setting_up_a_server

Is there not an easy way to add someone to my world when I am playing in it??

This is for PC.

If you're in the same house, it's easy. Just make a world as if you're singleplayer and then hit ESC and Open for LAN, then have him go into Multiplayer.
