This is the first pairing for which I read fic that actually changed my view of the original material. I can't watch Jurassic Park now and not see their relationship as the primary one in the movie.

That's so unusual for me. Usually I like to ship my ships as a kind of parallel universe thing. I don't want my ships to become real, and I'm under no delusions that they were ever canon.

Not these two.

I'm not sure if their romantic relationship was there all along, but deliberately low key so not to be too blatant, or it was just a convenient plot arc about redemption that carried a lot more weight once the actors had done their magic with it.

Either way, once I'd seen it I could never under it.

They didn't exactly trigger an age difference kink in me, more like Alan's need to protect and Billy's need to learn from him was another important reason why they fell for each other. It's definitely part of why they work.
