We're opening presents on the 27th, but I got a $50 check from my Aunt and Uncle. It is going towards hotel and food when I'm taking the bar, but it still made me happy. and a $50 JC Penny gift card from another aunt and uncle that was used to order a few things including this red and black shirt that I fell in love with.

Gift cards and cash are nice and simple. I like them because they say "I admit I don't know your preferences so here's a gift you can tailor to yourself". Even cards for specific stores are that, because it gives one options across that store's stock.
