Cracked even pointed out how 'Wreck-It Ralph' is similar to 'Taxi Driver'. But 'The Force Awakens' didn't even try to hide that they were remaking the original. Taking a centuries-old novel and updating it with modern sci-fi is more than what they did.

But there's a difference between an original story that's inspired by older works and a sequel that's basically a remake of the original film.
