I've seen this on Tumblr enough that I always view the mobile versions of tumblrs to avoid it happening to me.

I really don't get it. Reading a blog a lot doesn't mean you're malicious or obsessed.

That is so fucking weird.

Why do these people have public blogs if they don't want strangers looking at them?

Well, it's usually teenagers (and some immature SJWs) that flip out like that. So I think it's a matter of them wanting a place where they can vent/say anything they want and have only their friends see it...but Tumblr doesn't really have that functionality.

Yes, there's private blogs on there--but it doesn't work like LJ/DW. If you want to go private, you have to go *all* private--you can't selectively make some posts public and others friends' only. So kids are stuck between having to opt out of public discussions (with a private blog) or have ALL of their should-be private/friends'locked thoughts out in public.

Since most people aren't going to opt out of public discussion, that leaves them in the position of putting their private stuff out there--and then they feel freaked out that strangers are reading it.

It's all very dumb. Tumblr just needs to get its shit together and give the kids a decent Friends-lock system.

Never going to happen. Tumblr seems to thrive on this kind of drama.

Well...I think it's more a matter that Tumblr wants to be able to utilize all the content created by its members. You can't make money if all the content is hidden behind privacy filters and only a few people can see it.

So if a site can discourage that by only offering poor privacy options...many of them will do so.
