People using gifting to troll or harass other people?

This is why we can't have nice things.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-26 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. I wish I could say I was surprised, but in the current fandom climate, it really doesn't surprise me at all. It does make me very sad, though.

Yes. Sometimes it's because someone creating fanwork for an exchange (either purposefully or inadvertently) ignores the recipient's DNW items; sometimes it's because some stain decides that some poor unworshipful schloob 'deserves' harassment. I've heard of a recipient given a fic untagged for content they've [the recip] stated elsewhere they find triggering, or (less traumatically) a fic featuring an NOTP.

Some people are just nasty.

Ugh. That is disgusting, especially if it's like an exchange for Christmas and everyone is in good spirits and then receive shit like that. I hate scum in fandom so much.

Yup. It happens. I had someone gift me with a fic that contained and actually focused on a kink I said squicked me. I also had someone who wrote a fic for me based on a prompt, but they purposefully twisted the prompt to make it about their pet character (my request was about Lily's reaction to Snape's treatment of Harry when they meet in the afterlife, the author wrote a fic about Lily apologizing to Snape for "abandoning" him and didn't have her mad at all).

...did you end up getting a fic relevant to your prompt?

Nope. I ended up posting some sort of thanks to without being specific because I didn't want to be rude even though they were being rude themselves. No one else filled the prompt.

Man...I'd have read that...

One problem I saw during my time hanging around a kink meme is that often if one fill has been made, no more fills turn up. Oh, there are some prompts that garner a lot of interest and get multiple fills, but outside those, tough beans.

There's also the bonus that if someone posts a prompt that is similar to an older prompt that got filled, someone will link to the older prompt and no new fills will happen after that.

Ah, with the latter scenario I have found posting the prompt again with some minor wording tweaks and "inspired by such filled prompts as X, I would love to see....*insert prompt here*"

That can help, I guess, but not all the time.

Do it. Refuse the gift. Give in to your dark side.

+1

push the button.

Just heard of people getting rid of their accounts because they have gotten rainbow flags. Good riddance, and good trolling.

Rape TW

A friend of mine was recently gifted fic by a creepy dude who had a crush on her.

The fic was about him finding her house, tracking her down, and showing up at her place and I think the fic even went so far as him raping her.

Wow, that's insanely fucked up. What's wrong with people?

Re: Rape TW

(Anonymous) 2015-12-27 05:19 am (UTC)(link)
...I'm going to assume that wasn't her requested fandom?

Re: Rape TW

(Anonymous) 2015-12-27 08:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think she had any requests.

I'd hope she went to the police with this.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-27 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
I'd say I'm sad about that, but I have seen a lot of disgusting and shitposting fic every once in awhile. Sometimes people think they are funny and sometimes they are just trolls. I hate the internet sometimes.
