I'm pretty sure that was meant to imply white as in fear. They were hiding because they went back in fucking time and were trying to save Buckbeak without getting caught.

I'm not arguing that she's changed or hasn't changed her mind. I think she imagined white Hermione while writing but people have been saying that a black Hemrione interpretation is ruled out by the text and it isn't. That doesn't mean it's supported by the text, either. But it's not incorrect.
