Same, OP, same. :( I'm on tumblr and it's nice enough for fanart and pics but I don't feel the same sense of community and conversation is practically nonexistent.

Tumblr isn't a platform made with community or discussion in mind... It's too disorganized. It seems to be made to share things quickly and easily, which it excels at, but discussing anything in length in posts can get confusing (At least for me) and seems to be frowned upon by some. Forums and reddit is actually easier for that, but depending on the fandom you might be out of luck.

You can converse on Tumblr now via their new messaging/IM system. It's amazing.

Call me when they have group chat or message board system where you can read discussion.

IM is for your friends, not fandom discussions. IM is just like sending someone an ask except faster. It's a small improvement but it won't really change how fandom is on tumblr.

Sorry, but it's really not. I guess maybe it might seem amazing compared to what they had before, but that's setting the bar really, really low.
