To add to your points, in translated edition intro languages without a "white = fear" idiom, the translation says paled or otherwise indicates fear.

Well the author's original words are ambiguous. I totally believe that JKR imagined Hermione as white, but people are saying it's canon and that people who imagine book Hermione as black are incorrect and that just isn't supported by the text. The text says Hermione is probably, not definitely white, so therefore if you imagine her black or mixed race you're not actually wrong.
