I read the Star Wars The Force Awakens novelization last night and loved it. No spoilers, but it expanded well on the movie and was pretty good (though nothing quite matches the Revenge of the Sith novelization).

...give any background on Rey and why she's automatically badass at everything she touches?

Not specifically, but it does suggest more strongly that she had a background connected to things. Kylo recognizes her.

Personally, the badass thing made sense to me. Unlike Luke, she lived on her own. She clearly had mechanical skills and was used to taking care of herself. So it made sense to me that she'd pick up the Force faster.

Meh, I'm a bit on the fence about her. I'm hoping they give much more background in the next film, because her picking up on all this stuff with no teacher (and evidently in a world that doesn't quite believe in Jedis) is a stretch for me.

Interesting that Kylo recognizes her.

I keep wondering if they'd really strand three generations of you-know-whos on desert worlds to grow up

You sound like the kind of fan who wouldn't be any less mad if it did, though.

LOL. I'm glad you can tell so much about me from my one-sentence question.

I'll have to let my friend know. He loves the Revenge of the Sith novelization too.

Out of curiosity, what did you like (or dislike) about the Revenge of the Sith novelization?

I liked the characterization a lot. I feel like it expanded enough to make things like Anakin going dark make sense. And the whole tone was great. Plus, I think it made the galaxy willingly turning on the Jedi make sense. For example, that scene where the Jedi confront Palpatine after finding out he's a Sith. Palpatine records it and makes it sound like the Jedi are just confronting the Supreme Chancellor because they want to take over. Basically, Palpatine's plotting is clear and it makes connections and it just explains everything really well.
