Advice needed

(Anonymous) 2015-12-29 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
Before Star Wars came out, a coworker friend and I were planning to see it together this week and talking all about how hard it would be to avoid spoilers until now. Turns out, he went ahead and watched it last week. Granted, so did I with my family, but I was perfectly willing to act like I hadn't and watch it a second time with him as if it were my first. But by the time he admitted to having seeing it, I wasn't in a spot to walk that lie back.

So, we were going to see it today, but the roads are really icy and I didn't want to get out. So we pushed it tomorrow, and probably the shitty theater in town because I'm still not sure how much a trust the weather and highways to get to a good theater.

Problem is, the more I think about it, the more I think I'm just not sure I want to go. He doesn't want to see it in 3D, I'd kind of like to experience it once that way before it's not an option for me, and I'm not a terribly social person to begin with. Making plans to do something with a person who isn't family or a childhood friend takes some serious mental effort. So, I'm kind of thinking I'd rather cancel and maybe on Wednesday go by myself to the good theater.

But that seems kind of mean or something.

Just be honest about what you want re: the 3d thing. If he's not interested, then just be like, ah, well, that's how I'm going to see it, and you've seen it already, maybe we'll catch a different movie together sometime.

This. You can just say you're really interested in seeing the film in 3D and if he isn't down for that you can cancel.

Saw it both in 3D and not and the 3D adds nothing and is not worth it for the extra ticket price, imo. Just a thought. I cancel plans with coworker acquaintances all the time so I don't have an opinion on the other thing.

Funny, I meant to ask if the 3D was worthwhile in my original post (because, yeah, if it's not I'll totally save the money), but forgot. I guess my desire to find a justifiable reason to cancel was just that strong.

Yeah, if you want to go with the guy, I would just go with him. It's def worth it to see it again, but the 3D adds nothing at all except to inflate the ticket price.

The only time I noticed the 3D was the opening crawl. It was COMING OUT OF THE SCREEN TOWARDS ME at the same time it was SCROLLING AWAY FROM ME and that was kind of funny.

I agree, the 3D really wasn't used much in the film. I'm planning to see it again on a normal screen when I get the chance to.

Goddamn, this is just the dumbest thing I have heard in a while. Either nut up and put your foot down about seeing it in 3D or nut up and tell him you don't want to go anymore.

You know what, fuck you. Not everybody has Herpymcderp's comfort in dealing with people. "Nut up" is a terribly easy thing to say when you're good at people things.

All of this is entirely your own fault. You can be mad at me all you want for pointing it out but seriously, the solution is to stop dancing around and actually be clear about what you want.

Not mad at you for pointing it out. But you were being fucking dick about it, and that's what I was responding to.

That's fair, I guess.

Holy fucking shit did Herpy just admit to being a dick?

Are you getting a jump-start on some kind of new year's resolution or something?

[personal profile] herpymcderp 2015-12-29 06:37 am (UTC)(link)
??

I don't believe in resolutions, and it wouldn't be the first time on f!s that I've admitted to being a bit of a dick. Clearly you are not one of my stalker anons lol.

Standing up for yourself is tough, but a life where you're everyone's doormat because you won't stand up for yourself is even tougher, nonny. Level with your co-worker, say that you really want to see it in 3D, but you understand that he's not into it, so it's cool with you if he doesn't want to go. BE FIRM ABOUT THE 3D THING.

And try not to be such a pushover.

You should just go. Not like you have to talk during a movie anyway. Plus it is Star Wars. GO SEE IT DAMN YOU
