What is the difference between RPS-ers and historians?

(Anonymous) 2015-12-31 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
Because I legit don't see one.

Considering RPS stands for real person slash and historians aren't all about the gay, there's one!

Historians also don't necessarily focus on the "person" either. Not every historian is a biographer.

So all you've got left is "real"

Historians are less likely to show their badly written porn to the people they wrote it about. Because in most cases, they literally can't.

Historians tend to be writing about dead people.

Well, historians extensively research their subjects, so that's a difference. And historians theoretically seek to present their subject in an unbiased light, whereas RSPers are generally motivated by a strong positive bias. RPS is fiction and historical biography is NON-fiction, so that's another huge difference. Historical fiction, though, I think is where you find some overlap.

Then you're either misunderstanding one or possibly both terms.

I keep reading that as Rock Paper Shotgun no matter how much I try.

The reality isn't much better.

Well, same difference between a writer of historical fiction, and a historian.

A historical fiction writer is trying to write a good story, more than one that's 100% accurate. They not only try to get into a person's head, they presume their thoughts, their words, their private actions.

A historian might try to get into someone's head, but they are a bad historian if they presume anything. They aren't motivated by their genitals (hopefully) or the desire to write a satisfying story, they are trying to interpret source material and find something closer to the truth. They research primary sources and read every secondary source on the topic. Their work is peer reviewed. They are concerned with the truth, not simply "good reads".

lol

I didn't expect people to take this seriously.

Historians care more about canon than fanon. RPFers love their fanon so much that they want to believe it's canon.

Historians are interested in recording first-source historical perspectives, not fantasy porn fap material.

Wow, it sounds like history class was very different for you than it was for me. I had heard that "No Child Left Behind" changed education in this country, but that's quite some change.
