That they're stupid and willing to throw the country under the bus in a childish tantrum?

Some. Others genuinely believe that the system is so broken that can't be repaired without breaking everything and hitting rock bottom first.

Which is stupid, wrong and dangerous. They'd undo all the progress we've already made. If Trump became president, that's it, that's the end, there is no coming back from that. You cannot rebuild from rock bottom if there's nothing to rebuild WITH.

Their idea is that it will wake people up because they can't deny that the policies enacted caused a flaming trainwreck any more, and the people who believe genuinely in Trump need to be shown that in reality in order to convince them. They think when faced with hitting rock bottom in reality, Trump supporters and conservatives will realize they were wrong and move left because there's no further right to go.

That's the idea, anyway. I can understand the thinking, whether or not I agree with it

The fundamental flaw with that is that destroying America is exactly what Trump supporters (and the Tea Party before them) WANT.

The argument I've heard against that is "They don't realize they want it, though. They think it'll make America great and there's no way to convince them they're wrong until they destroy it" which I don't disagree with

Though I wouldn't propose that the solution is letting them actually do it

Cognitive dissonance will keep them from realizing or learning a goddamn thing. If it all breaks down, which it will, they'll just blame Democrats, the gays, and brown people.
