It's banking on the image JL and YO had for being anti-war and peace-loving hippie-dippies, though what JL and YO said and what they did were two very different things.

Also it's like this huge lure to try and get their kids to speak to them again, even though YO's daughter was kidnapped by her father and JL's son rightfully wanted nothing to do with him.

NAYRT - The whole thing is sad really, both in the "aw man :(" and "wow that's how low you're gonna stoop" ways. At the beginning of the song Yoko whispers "Happy Christmas Kyoko" and John whispers "Happy Christmas Julian", both children who were separated from them for various reasons. (John was pretty abusive towards Julian, so he didn't want anything to do with his dad, Kyoko was taken by her father. I forget the details (they're on Yoko's Wikipedia page I believe) but she did eventually meet with Yoko again as an adult)
