Not that this makes it okay, but I kind of think people saying "kill yourself" usually don't actually mean it? I always assumed they were either trolling or being sarcastic. So less reactionary, more being a flippant asshole. But definitely not cool and even dangerous in some cases. (I've seen people talking about suicide here receive those responses - WTF?!)

I can think of an instance where someone urged someone to literally kill themselves, but it was a string of really vile texts. (They were charged with murder about a month ago, IIRC. It's awful, the girl in question was smirking in the picture.)

If whoever they're talking to has been thinking of killing themself already, even a non-serious "kill yourself" can be the push it takes to make them do it. Not that you'd know it if they were thinking about it or not, but it's not a smart risk to take.

AYRT - I definitely agree, and I think it's stupid, but OP (or you?) said it's people being angry when I always take it as someone not taking the person's threat seriously. Obviously both are horrible.
