Kylo Ren and the Winter Soldier. I think they're great characters but it really makes me cringe how the fandom just thinks they can be easily forgiven for the crap they've done, particularly Kylo.

Because they just need a hug, and then they will be yours forever and they didn't mean it when they did all those awful things.

Yeah and a quick "I'm sorry, Snoke/HYDRA made me do it" is going to make everything a-ok when you're confronted with all the crimes you've committed.

At least with Bucky he was tortured and brainwashed, so he has something of an excuse. Kylo Ren CHOSE to be evil, and KEEPS choosing to be evil even when given the opportunity to chose otherwise.

Well in defense of Bucky, he was brainwashed at the time. (Sure he still did those things, but he was a victim too.)

Kylo though, he knew what he was doing and was in control of his actions.

That's true but I dislike how people think he can walk away from all that. It feels like 99% of the recovering Bucky fic out there is Steve just takes Bucky in like a stray puppy, and there's no exploration of the fact that he's probably wanted for god knows how many crimes in god knows how many countries. Not to mention I'd imagine he'd feel major guilt for what he's done, and would in all likelihood WANT to turn himself in, even though (as you point out) he was brainwashed.

And I really dislike how people think Tony, T'Challa, et al would just magically forgive him upon finding out he was brainwashed. Obviously they're not awful enough to press charges or anything like that, but I don't think they'd ever be really comfortable around Bucky. Y'know?

I haven't been in MCU fandom in quite a while, so I don't know what the fic has been like lately. I did figure with Civil War approaching that there would be more exploration of the fallout of Bucky's actions and what legal consequences they could have.

and there's no exploration of the fact that he's probably wanted for god knows how many crimes in god knows how many countries

I've seen fic like that (not that I have recs on hand atm; sorry!), but again, not sure how widespread it is.

Not to mention I'd imagine he'd feel major guilt for what he's done

Oh, of course! If he's anything like comic Bucky (and I'm not even that familiar with the comics, but I know this much) he'll be torn up over it, and it won't be easy for him to process. (Comic Bucky avoided Cap for a LONG time after he regained his memory.) That's a perfectly normal human reaction. I'd be more upset if he shrugged it off; THAT I couldn't believe.

and would in all likelihood WANT to turn himself in

That...I don't know. I could definitely see it getting to a point where he wants to turn himself in because he does feel a massive amount of guilt for what he did while he was brainwashed, and he wouldn't want anymore bloodshed over him. However, I do think that would take a bit of time; it seems like at the start of Civil War (and at the end of TWS) he just wanted to run and get away from it all (plus find out what the hell was happening, and had happened). I don't even blame him for that, after what he went though; he was scared.

And I really dislike how people think Tony, T'Challa

Again, I haven't been hanging around in the fandom much lately so I haven't seen this. I have read fic where Tony struggles with how he feels about Bucky (and what Bucky did to his father), but I've never even heard anyone talk about how Bucky and T'Challa would interact beyond the fighting they do in CW.

I don't think they'd ever be really comfortable around Bucky

I honestly can't say, as I don't know T'Challa. Tony...could go either way. I don't see him being bff's with Bucky, but maybe in the future (depending on the events of Civil War) they could be civil with each other, and Tony could forgive him.

DA

Forgive him for killing Tony's parents? Not likely.

While I agree that no sobstory background should excuse what he did, we don't have any real information what Ben's seduction to the dark side and his training by Snoke included. So saying that he 100% surely definitely knew what he was doing at all times does not yet have a secure Canon basis.

Well, I didn't say at all times! But (with what we know) it very much seems that he knew what he was doing in that particular scene.

However, I don't claim to know much about Kylo's motivations or his seduction to the dark side, because we don't have much information about that yet. And frankly, it is possible that Snoke is manipulating Kylo more then we know, but as of now we just don't know.

I'm one of those people that still think Kylo could be redeemed, and I def don't hate him, but until we get some more information I'm not willing to say he didn't know what he was doing.
