Re: Shower thoughts and realizations
(Anonymous) 2015-12-31 02:47 am (UTC)(link)But imo, I feel like a person not feeling incredibly ashamed and embarrassed because someone suggests they ought to is a sign of self-security and confidence.
Feeling a little bit of shame is probably necessary if you've actually hurt someone but just enough for you to catch yourself and realize what you're doing. Beyond that, time spend castigating yourself and wallowing in your shame is time that could be spent fixing the problem, apologizing to the offended parties and moving on with your life.
And if no one is hurt, harassed or hurt by your actions, and you aren't being hurt, then what's the point in feeling shame?
You're wearing something someone thinks looks tacky? Eh. They'll survive. You're not doing a hobby right? It's a hobby, chill. You're a fan of a series they think is embarrassing or hate the fans of? Not your problem.
I mean of course they want you to feel embarrassed, but, will feeling embarrassed really do anything for you? Probably not.
