All the previous villains were terrible:

-Anakin gets horny, gets mad at Jedi cause they won't let him fuck and be a Jedi Master
-Maul is just some nameless assassin
-Dooku is just an apprentice who gets used
-Sheev is just evil cause he fucking loves being evil

Kylo is evil because of his own burning insecurity: he's so desperate to grow stronger and believes it's his rightful place to rule over the galaxy that he turned to the dark side in order to reach his potential. He imagines a potential reality where he could have ruled over the Empire as a descendant of Vader's lineage, perhaps even getting to spend time with his grandfather; clearly he's been severely misguided by Snoke due to his potential as a Jedi. He clearly has the same inner rage as Anakin, knows his own lineage and despite hearing about the atrocities Vader committed, somehow is seduced into believing he was doing the best thing for the galaxy. He's so desperate to serve the dark side, he kills his own father even when it clearly mentally ruins him. Even thanking his father as he dies. The closest thing to this for me is Vader's dedication to bringing Luke to the dark side: he honestly thinks the best thing for his son is to rule alongside him. Also some kind of connection to Rey even Snoke isn't aware of that he has.

He isn't as ~badass and cool~ as the previous villains and underage kids will hate him for it, but hell, he's one of the best Star Wars characters and the most interesting TFA character.

Exactly this. Kylo Ren was the most fleshed out character in TFA.

You lost me at "believes it's his rightful place to rule over the galaxy".

Anakin wanted wanted wanted -- wanted his mom, wanted excitement, wanted Padme, wanted recognition, wanted not to lose what he had. In the course of attempting to take what he wanted he had no sense of moderation, started out annoying and moved on up through obnoxious to evil child-murderer to destroyer of everything he started out wanting, but his initial goals were modest and understandable.

Become a murderer and throw away the family you have because you want to be a dark lord? No. Go away.
