Maybe I'm weird, but seeing prequel Anakin made Vader a much more effective villain for me.

For example, it TESB, he tortures Han and Leia to draw Luke out. After the prequels, where we see that Anakin goes after his mother while she's being tortured and touches the dark side due to her death, this scene became infinitely more creepy to me. Because Vader knows exactly what he's doing to Luke, he's been through that pain himself.

Or in the opening of ROTJ when he says "dispense with the pleasantries" it resonates a lot more with me because Anakin used to buy into Palpatine's flattery so much. And you can see how much he hates his younger self for being such a fool.
