Huh. "Pre-chewed, easily-digestible" is a really good descriptor of why fanfic works well for me (and so many other readers). It doesn't sound complimentary, but it's not wrong... you have a pretty idea of what you're going to get and there are rarely any big surprises. I like that, but one of my resolutions this year is to read more published fiction and more variety of published fiction, too. "Easily digestible" is nice, but I think I'll be losing out if it's the only thing I ever read.
