I haaaaaaaaate this. Especially when the "hero" doesn't seem particularly worthy or capable of gaining/maintaining such a relationship, like when it's paired with the "when a character is a jerk and never learns their lesson and everyone likes and forgives them anyway" from above. You're an ass, you never really learn your lesson, but somehow the hot trophy woman finds a reason to settle for you, anyway. Ugh.
