That sounds more like narcissism than anything.

I'm just saying because I've known people (and as a young teen been one) who just needed to be reassured that they or what they did wasn't totally worthless.

Yeah, it could just be that they're insecure about their writing. But if it's stressful ennough that you feel like you gotta post it in secret community, that's a pretty big red flag, and OP should probably step back and re-evaluate the friendship as a whole.
