Not OP but: I think it's that it's art with fetish tropes that the fanartist gained some notoriety for saying wasn't done to satiate his fetish but to ~make a point about beauty and disability~. So fanart that is tagged as being fetish art created to appeal to that kink's audience is one thing; but fanart that is fetish-y but is circulated amongst the general fanart circle is another. And the attitude of denying it makes them uncomfortable.
