This could be easier or harder depending on your existing diet and exercise routine. If you don't exercise, start. If you drink soda, sugary coffee or tea, dairy, fruit juice, stop. Drink water and unsweetened coffee or tea or herb tea for 2 months. Eat mostly veggies and fruit with beans and whole grains for protein. Maybe some eggs or lean meat. If you munch mindlessly, eat baby carrots or snap peas or something. Try and eat so you feel fuller longer, whole grains and beans help with that, if you live in the northern hemisphere and it's cold where you are, soups and stews are good for that. Good luck and don't starve yourself, it makes keeping to your goals harder, is harder on your body, and makes it easier to gain weight back.

Also, if you're normal weight for your height or only slightly overweight, 20 pounds becomes harder to lose. The taller and heavier you are to start with, the less freaked out your body will be by losing weight.
