Nah, I get what OP is saying. You overwhelmingly get one pair slated as "canon" even if it isn't (say, HomuMado and KyoSaya from Puella Magi Madoka Magica) and people feel disloyal about breaking them up, even if they technically aren't together. And then you have actual canon pairs (like Korra/Asami from Korra or Kanaya/Rose from Homestuck) where people cry homophobia and erasure even if you're shipping the character with another female.

Overall femslash doesn't get a lot of the kinks and crackfic that juggernaut slash or even het fandoms get. I've only seen hatesexy f/f in the really juggernaut fandoms like HP and Homestuck. Most of the time it's pure gentle lovemaking with very little difference in tropes.

(Same goes with f/f media in general, though that's a story for another day)

Do you have any examples of people calling others homophobic for breaking up a canon pair for another femslash pairing?

I don't have any examples, but I can see the problem some people would have with replacing one canon lesbian/queer woman in a pairing with a female character who's probably, in most cases, straight in canon. Because then you're still writing about the straight woman in place of the lesbian.

I don't agree with it (ship whatever, I say) but I can see it.

That's kind of a bleh excuse to make, because some 95% of fandoms darling f/f or m/m pairs are generally considered "straight" in canon. A lot of people will claim up and down that they're really bi, could be secretly gay, but they almost always have a love interest of a different gender.

Sure you get popular canon gay/bi characters like Kurt/Blaine and Korra/Asami, but some of the creators will go out of their way to say their characters aren't like that and fandom won't believe them. (See: the OUAT femslashers, the Dean/Castiel fandom, the John/Sherlock fandom...it goes on and on) and even if they don't, more often than not the fandom darling slash or femslash pair will never ever ever get together except in our dreams.

Yeah, but the vast majority of fandoms just don't have enough female characters to sustain more than 1-2 pairings, so if one is a juggernaut, that's about it. Puella Magi Madoka Magica is an exception - and I note you can already name 2 "canon" pairs in it. You get a lot of female characters, like OUAT, HP or Homestuck, you get a lot of femslash pairings. Even in Korra, Korrasami is the strongest but you also get a good number of Korra/Lin and Korra/Kuvira fics.
