Inspired by 5

I'm curious now.

What do you /have you wanted to write but feel like it wouldn't get as much love or whatever. Or whatever other reason. If not that reason than why?

I love experimental stuff that most people write off as cheap gimmicks (e.g. A Void by Georges Perec is a novel written entirely without the letter E) and I'd like to try some of these things but then you get back to what I just said about people dismissing it as a cheap gimmick. I just think it sounds fun and I'd like to try to come up with a good story within the limits of something unusual.

I've also been more and more wary of writing in first person because I keep hearing so many people say they hate it. I love writing it though. I love getting that deep into the narrator's head and filtering everything through their words, especially when it's a character that sees the world a lot differently than I do.

Scott Parkin won Writers of the Future with a story consisting wholly of five-word sentences.

Just sayin'.

My brain's been running a post-game Life is Strange fic...but it'll never get written because I don't think anyone wants to read a story alternating between porny scenes and scenes of the characters on the phone with other characters...

I wrote a fanfic who received an okay reception, I want to write a sequel and at least one person wants one too, except my sequel idea involves OCs, and we know how fandom feels about OCs.

To be honest, I think the folks who are in your face about here are less likely to harass you in other places. As long as you slap a warning on there, the majority of people will either avoid it and say nothing or give it a chance and leave if they don't like it. and if someone does give you grief for something that's already warned, they're making themselves look like the ass already, they're complaining about something you already warned them for coming in.

Also, if the character is integrated well into the story and there's a solid reason for why they're there in the first place, and they're pretty good, a lot of people won't mind.

The ones who will kneejerk say "well it has OCs so it's terrible" are not really the ones to pay attention to. Above all, pay attention to the people who are willing to give your story a chance, not the people who have already decided they hate it. Doing that will save you a lot of worry.

I want to write a Batfamily goes to Hogwarts fic. But I feel like it's a bigger endeavor than I'm used to writing. Plus it'd be gen, and those don't get a lot of hits and my motivation dwindles without feedback.

Fuck it, I write what I want and let the chips fall. Which, these days, is mostly werewolf fiction (yes, I'm that anon). And everyone says that werewolf fiction is a "hard sell," but show me something that's not a hard sell.

My philosophy is that if you love something hard enough, and write it, then someone else will love it too. Maybe there's that one person out there who really needed to hear what you had to say, and if you hadn't written it, they'd be without. At the end of the day, if I don't love what I'm writing, then what's the point?

And, you know, I'm living proof. I just won Writers of the Future with one of my werewolf stories (as in, I got the call last night). Dave Farland, the coordinating judge, famously "hates" werewolf stories. But he likes mine and has been consistently pulling them out of the stack for the last several quarters--even though the Contest has anonymous entries.

Write what you love.

Gen. And gen crossovers. It's hard to find an audience, so I have to really get invested in order to bother writing it.

F/F and femmedomme. People say they want it but it really doesn't sell even half as well as femmesub or het (even with all other things like quality of writing and publisher being equal).

I write it anyway, but it really is a strange phenomenon. Seen any good theories as to why it doesn't sell?

There was an article going around that was about people saying they want femslash fanfic but not *writing* it (the author's theory being that evryone's too brainwashed by the male gaze and aren't comfortable talking about vaginas or something).

But if it doesn't *sell* then it's not about people being too scared to write about vaginas. You don't have to write to read. Are people saying they want it but not actually wanting it at all?

I always wanted to write something that tackles sexuality/gender problems (You know, like not being sure if you're actually gay or not, being transsexual, etc.) in a realistic, non sexual matter.

I have a feeling that no matter how much research I do, and no matter how respectfully I handle the situation, I'm going to write something HORRIBLY wrong and end up being labeled as homophobic or something terrible like that.

Tbh I think this extreme and reactionary "OMG you made a mistake or said something wrong and now you're HORRIBLE' is probably going to become less fashionable and popular soon.

Well I hope anyway.

I'd love to do an interactive fantasy story where you choose at the beginning whether the perspective character is a sexist man changed into a woman or a sexist woman changed into a man. Guiding the character through various dangers towards a confrontation with the sorceress responsible, you decide how the character reacts to other characters who accept or reject transformation, and whether they ultimately identify as a man or a woman in the end. I've never done interactive fiction of that sort, though, and I'm not sure how to strike a balance between giving the viewpoint character a distinct personality and allowing them to be a vehicle for reader insertion. Besides, who would actually care about interactive fiction that isn't a "game" and doesn't have failure states?

Not a story but I've always wanted to do a BL dating game where you can pair any of the characters up. I've played 3 BL dating games but found it annoying that you A) had to play the lame-o uke MC, B) the MC is ALWAYS uke, and C) any number of the background seme/seme pairings would be infinitely more interesting.

I've long wanted to write about a trans guy stuck in the Southern debutante society. But I'm not trans, and I don't really have a story other than he's 100 percent miserable until he turns 18, "runs away" and starts the process of transitioning.

A Choose Your Own Adventure Edwardian Era AU Harry Potter fic, full of different destinies for your various choices of self inserts.

Sigh.

1)I don't write for Harry Potter (at least never published anything, and whatever I did was with canon characters. OCs/self inserts do not see the light of day)
2)I have at least seven different "choices" = way too may time to write. PLUS research. PLUS in character MCs.
3) Where would I post this? And who would read it?
